- If so, you may be interested in participating in our new Creativity in Training programme.

- Are you unemployed and receiving a social welfare payment?

  You will keep your social welfare payments in full while attending the course.

- You may also qualify for an additional Training Allowance of €32 per week based on full attendance.

The Activation Programme-Creativity in Training aims to stimulate innovation in the provision of training measures for jobseekers wishing to learn new skills. This programme is funded under the Department of Education and Skills Labour Market Activation Fund and the European Social Fund.

Within this programme County Galway Vec will provide courses in a range of different locations throughout the county targeting people formerly employed in declining sectors such as construction, retail and manufacturing, with particular emphasis on the 18-35’s and the long-term unemployed.

The programmes offered will:
• be participant centred
• aimed at improving the employability of jobseekers
• provide progression pathways to training, education and employment opportunities
The programmes will identify and build on the prior experience of participants in specific areas where local skills are relevant to future employment trends including:

• Tourism
• Media
• Aquaculture
• Energy

Programmes will also include elements of Communications, IT, Personal Effectiveness and Mathematics. Practical entrepreneurial skills will be developed throughout the programme and support will be available to those who are interested in becoming self-employed. Career Guidance, Study Skills and other supports will be provided to all participants and clear progression pathways will be outlined into already established courses.

The deadline for receipt of all applications has been extended until August 2010.

Summer Camp - August 2010

Campa Samhraidh .. Lúnasa!

Gaeilge Locha Riach have announced details of an Irish language summer camp in Loughrea this August.
Games, role-play, art, music, singing, quizzes and much, much more aim to make language learning an enjoyable experience. A low teacher-pupil ratio ensures that supervision is a high priority.
The camp is aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 12 years and will run for two weeks, from the 9th to the 20th of August, at a cost of €95. Preference will be given to those registered for the full term of the camp. Parents are being advised to book early.

Bilingual Schemes for Business

Gaeilge Locha Riach would like to inform shopkeepers of bilingual / Irish Language schemes sponsored by Foras na Gaeilge which has recently been re-introduced.

If there are any shopkeepers or businesses thinking of renovating, it would be worthwhile to consider to take advantage of these grants. Already there is over twenty business shop fronts in which a ‘cúpla focal’ has prominence.

A grant towards bilingual signage will pay 50% of the cost and the maximum available under the scheme is €2,000. This, of course could go toward extra signage, panels, awnings, A-boards etc.
There is also funding available for Irish language materials (printed or electronic). This grant will pay 50% of the costs and the maximum available under this scheme is €1000.
These printed materials could be anything from business cards, complementary slips, letter heading etc.
