Overview of Service / Programmes & Certification Offered:

(Including all classes available i.e. Night Classes, PLC’s, B.T.E.I, Literacy etc.)

  • The core business of the Centre is the Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (V.T.O.S), which provides 2 years full-time education for unemployed adults
  • Self-financing classes are run on a demand basis
  • Programmes are assessed by FETAC (Levels 3-5), ECDL, & City & Guilds
  • The Centre is linked to Co Galway V.E.C. Adult Literacy Service

Target Group / Eligibility:

  • You are eligible for VTOS if you have been unemployed for 6 months or more, are over 21 years of age, and belong to an eligible category. These categories include unemployment payments, disability payments, lone parents, widows/widowers, as well as dependent spouses of the above and individuals signing for credits.
  • Payments equal to your Social Welfare benefits plus €31.80 allowance if more than 312 days on Unemployment Assistance, Unemployment Benefit, Disability Allowance or one Parent Allowance.

 

How much does it Cost?

The VTOS courses are free as they are provided by County Galway VEC on behalf of the Department of Education & Science.

  • Highly qualified teaching staff, including qualified literacy tutors.
  • Guidance Counsellor available to all*.

 

*Adult Guidance and Counselling Service:

The Adult Guidance and Counselling service is a new innovation on the VTOS Tuam programme. This new service was launched in 2006 and has already proved to be of great benefit to the students on the VTOS programme. Many adults returning to education need career advice and support. Sometimes people are looking for a ‘bit of direction in their lives’ and this type of support and advice is now available to VTOS students in their own centre in Airglooney.
